Welcome to our first blog post! If you’ve found your way here, you probably already know who we are and what we do and how this all started. We provide nutrition to the 400 underprivileged children of our community during these unprecedented times of covid-19. We are three childhood friends, passionate about food. If it were up to us, we’d provide all the nutrition in the world to these amazing children.
But 400 is a large number. Eager to start, we bore the costs of our first sample on our own since we had no initial fundings. So, the only logical way to start our project was to do a pilot.
We decided to create a snack pack and provide them to 40 different children in order to see their receptivity to our project.
Our pilot snack packs contained Soya chunks, the We-Mana protein bar and several different fruits and nuts. We made sure to offer different sources of essential nutrients for growth and immunity that are needed especially in times of a pandemic.
To cut our costs and opt for a more eco-friendly alternative to plastic or store-bought bags, we ran a newspaper drive around our community so that we could make newspaper bags. We collected over 500 newspapers from the extremely helpful members of our society!
Gloves and masks on, we sat for hours making all the newspaper bags on our own. Everything was handled with safety as our first priority. We sprayed disinfectant on the bags before using them and we made sure to wash our hands thoroughly before coming into contact with anything.
Our personal cherry on top was the comic strips we made for the children! We printed out hand-drawn, easy to understand, bilingual and visual instruction strips that explained how to use the snacks. On the flip-side of the strip, we included a small hand-drawn comic for the children to learn more about nutrition and have some fun!
After having sent out the pilot snack pack to the 40 children, we keenly awaited their response. A week later we received great news! The children wanted more! We were so excited to begin our journey and officially start our project. Magic Poshan was now alive and running!
As we said before, if it were up to us, we’d provide all the nutrition in the world to these amazing children. But it isn’t just up to the three of us. It’s up to you. We came together to form an idea, and now we need your help to make it happen. For those 400 children and, hopefully, many more!
